The History of the Park People

In 1977 Joy Teschner, a concerned citizen, decided the time had come for ordinary citizens to support Milwaukee County’s unique park system. Teschner recognized that the Park Commission could be disbanded and park funding reduced.

The magnificent system of 144 parks and 13 parkways and over 15000 acres of parkland provided a broad field for action. Formed as a nonprofit 501(c )(3), the Park People of Milwaukee County, Inc. works diligently to ensure our parks remain treasured. Then and now, the Park People® organization believes that public parks enrich our lives and communities.
